A
Trip Reduction Program (TRP) engages and facilitates employers in
encouraging employees, through incentives, to switch from single
occupancy vehicle use to other, more sustainable transportation
modes. A TRP recognises the risks associated with pollution and
inactive lifestyles, and offers flexible, practical and personalized
sustainable transportation options, with social, economic and
environmental benefits for employees and employers.
The
Saddle-up! Trip Reduction Program proposes to develop and implement
year-round, in-house programs in Calgary workplaces. The program
will aim to change the commuting behaviour of the employees to
transit, carpooling, cycling, walking and other active and
sustainable transportation modes using proven social marketing
techniques.
The
Saddle-up! Trip Reduction Program is modeled after similar trip
reduction programs in Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver. The Saddle-up! team has over 13 years experience in Calgary with the Calgary
Commuter Challenge, and over six years experience in running
successful trip reduction programs in Nova Scotia. The team is
trained in the implementation of social marketing techniques and
builds on the success of past projects that have a social marketing
foundation.
Utilizing survey results from past Commuter Challenges, we are in
the fortunate position of being able to customize a program for your
workplace. We are able to focus on incentives that produce the
greatest motivation among employees and remove barriers that were
identified in our surveys.
We
aim to bring together Calgary’s corporations, businesses,
government, community groups and individuals to implement and
support sustainability of our vibrant and rapidly growing city. We
also plan to draw from other Calgary interest groups in order to
share our findings and develop a template that can be applied to
other initiatives.
